Road Development Agency (RDA) Board Members have undertaken an inspection tour of the Livingstone and Kazungula Weighbridges to check on their operational status and contribution to road infrastructure protection in the Southern Province.
The visit forms part of the Board's oversight responsibility aimed at ensuring that key transport infrastructure is functioning efficiently and supporting the Agency's mandate of preserving the country's road network.
Board Members led by RDA Board Vice Chairperson Dr. Ngoza Munthali were briefed on the operations of the two facilities, including axle load control measures, traffic volumes, and challenges encountered in enforcing compliance among road users.
Speaking during the tour, Dr. Munthali emphasized the critical role weighbridges play in safeguarding road infrastructure by preventing damage caused by overloaded trucks.
The Board acknowledged the strategic importance of the Livingstone and Kazungula weighbridges, particularly given their location along key regional trade corridors that facilitate the movement of goods between Zambia and neighboring countries.
RDA Chief Executive Officer Eng. Nelson Chuma reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen weighbridge operations and improve service delivery.
Eng. Chuma noted that protecting road infrastructure remains essential to promoting economic growth, trade efficiency, and sustainable transport development.
