ECZ CONCLUDES NATIONWIDE WOMEN'S CONFERENCES AHEAD OF THE 2026 GENERAL ELECTION
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has concluded nationwide Women’s Conferences in preparation for the upcoming General Election scheduled for Thursday, 13th August 2026, held under the theme “Count Me In.”
During the Conference in Chipata, Eastern Province, ECZ Vice Chairperson Major General Vincent Mukanda (Rtd) emphasized that women are not merely participants in elections, but decision-makers, advocates, and architects of a brighter future.
He explained that the Commission has been deliberate in implementing policies that empower women at every stage of the electoral process.
The Vice Chairperson further noted that the Commission has strengthened voter education programs specifically designed to address barriers that hinder women’s full participation in elections.
These conferences were designed to educate women on Zambia’s electoral process, address the barriers that hinder their participation, highlight the impact of political violence on elections, and provide a platform for women from diverse political parties and organizations to engage in meaningful dialogue and collaboration.
The conferences took place in Southern Province (Choma), Western Province (Mongu), Luapula Province (Mansa), Northern Province (Kasama), and Muchinga Province (Chinsali) on 29th July 2026.
Thereafter, the conferences continued in Lusaka Province (Lusaka), Copperbelt Province (Ndola), North-Western Province (Solwezi), Eastern Province (Chipata), and Central Province (Kabwe) on 1st August, 2026
